Dr. Bih Joan Ndeh

Dr. Bih Joan Ndeh has a PhD in Applied Botany (Plant Pathology) from the University of Bamenda, Cameroon. Her research focused on the diversity and phylogeny of Ganoderma species and its use in the control of Phytophthora colocasiae in the Mezam Division of the Northwest Region of Cameroon.

Joan is a member of several scientific organizations, including the British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP), Society for Conservation Biology (SCB), British Mycological Society (BMS), Cameroonian Professional Research Oriented Women Network (CaPROWN), African Phytopathological Society (APS), American Phytopathological Society (APS), African Mycological Association (AfriMA), Cameroon Bioscience Society (CBS), Society for the Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN), CAM-Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), and she is a cohort 2 alumnus of SmartScifrika.

Joan received funding from the British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP) Covid-19 fund in 2022, an Idea Wild equipment grant for conservation projects in 2022, and a BSPP Junior Research Fellowship to conduct part of her research at the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI), University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2023.

She has also received travel grants to attend the International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2023) in Kigali, Rwanda, and the 2nd International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation in the Congo Basin in Kisangani, DRC (2023).

Joan has published two articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including “Morphological diversity of Ganoderma species and its host trees in Mezam Division, Northwest Region, Cameroon” in Microbial Biosystems and “State of Ganoderma Species in Africa: Diversity, Ethnomycological Value, Threats, and Conservation Status” in Springer. She is also co-author of an article on leaf spot disease in water leaf published in the African Journal of Agricultural Research.

She has mentored several students in Biology as a secondary school teacher for over two decades and is passionate about mentoring more female scientists.
